Answering Sortie HQ’s questions. The questions Sortie HQ may ask before your first breakdown are free to ask and to answer. Answering a question on an item, seeing the item rewritten with your answer, and applying it are free, the same as refining a single item. A question asked once for the whole plan is priced the same way: each item it rewrites costs what refining that one item costs, so it is free too. Answers are kept as decisions for the initiative, and writing down or correcting a decision is free too.
The allowance resets every month. Unused credits do not roll over. The one exception is the trial: whatever you have left of your trial credits, up to 3,000, carries into your first paid month.
What a credit buys. Each work item Sortie HQ creates costs 1.5 credits, so 7,500 credits plan about 5,000 work items. Each initiative is sized to the team and time horizon you give it: one engineer for two weeks plans about 15 work items (about 23 credits), a team of five for a quarter about 80 (120 credits). Titles past that size are kept as “Not planned” markers and cost nothing; planning beyond the size limit is your choice, at the same 1.5 credits per work item. The trial’s 3,000 credits plan about 2,000 work items.
A re-plan is never charged twice. Previewing shows you the level you asked to re-plan, and that is what the preview costs. Applying it fills in the detail underneath, and that is what applying costs. You are never billed twice for the same level, and each fresh preview is fresh thinking, so each one is charged.
If you run out, you can buy more. Top-up packs are one-off purchases that sit on top of the monthly allowance. They are for paid plans; during the trial, you can start your plan early instead.

Model calls run on your provider account, not ours. Connect OpenAI, Anthropic, or Azure OpenAI. Your plans are still stored in our database in the United States — your own key changes which account runs the model, not where your plans are stored.

Below your tier's allowance, bringing your own key is the worse deal. You would pay the subscription and your own provider bill for work already included.
Above it, your own key wins, and it keeps winning the heavier you run. That is the point. We would rather you move to your own key than pay us for top-ups you resent.
Either way the platform is the same. No feature is gated behind whose key you use.

Do I need a card to try it?
Yes. The trial requires a card up front and grants 6,000 credits for 14 days. When the 14 days end, that card is charged for the plan you picked unless you cancel before then. You can cancel any time from Billing, and you keep access to the end of the period you paid for.
What is a seat?
A creator — someone who starts initiatives and generates plans. Everyone else is a viewer, and viewers are unlimited and free on every tier.
Is chat metered?
Chat never costs credits, on every tier including the trial. It is the surface you use most, so charging for it would be backwards. A fair-use limit of 300 messages per organization per day keeps scripts from abusing it. The count resets at midnight UTC.
Do unused credits roll over?
No. Each month starts fresh at your tier's allowance. Unused trial credits are the one exception — up to 3,000 of them carry into your first paid month.
What do I lose on a cheaper tier?
Seats and credits. Nothing else. Every tier carries every feature.
Why is Scale a conversation?
At $1,499 a month it is a budget line that needs approval, and the setup questions are usually specific enough to be worth a call. Team and Growth are self-serve.
Can we pay annually?
Yes. Annual is two months free at every paid tier, with the same monthly credit allowance.
